AFRICAN CULTURAL/DRUMMING/DANCE/SUMMER CAMP

Ages 7-17
July 5, 2004 - August 27, 2004
Monday through Friday 9:AM - 4:00PM
(Early drop off & Extended stay available)

This is a unique summer camp that introduces students ages 7—17 to West African cultures. The students will work with young professional artists from the “Kassumai Troupe” under the direction of Ndongo “lucky” Diop, a native of Senegal, in West Africa, to explore and create “Images of Africa” through music, dance, African languages, theatre and hand-made crafts. The program is geared towards teaching self-esteem, self-awareness, creativity, enhancing respect and understanding cultural similarities and differences, and DISCIPLINE! Students have to enroll for the whole duration of the camp. The last day of the camp session features a presentation by the students for their parents and the community. Some performances in other summer camps will be scheduled throughout the program. These performances will allow the children to demonstrate and enhance their newly acquired skills and talents. Extended care is available for no charge.

Daily Activities:
09:00 – 10:00 am Rhythm/Drumming
10:15 – 11:15 am Dance & Movement
11:30 – 12:30 pm Lunch/free time
12:45 – 1: 45 pm Language (Wolof)
1:45 – 2: 45 pm Songs and theatre
2: 50 --3: 25 pm Culture & Visual Arts
3: 30 -- 4:00 pm Snack/Clean up/free time

Registration & Payment Procedures:
The cost is $200 for the duration of whole camp. The registration fee is $100.00 (One hundred dollars. The registration fee is non-refundable. We must receive your completed registration and release form accompanied by the appropriate fees and deposit by the deadlines listed below.

Payments deadlines:
A 50% deposit of the total $200.00 is due by July 1st. The remaining balance has to be paid by August 1st. The deposit is part of the tuition. The tuition is not non-refundable. Upon receipt of your registration application and payment, you will receive a confirmation sheet, class information packet and student medical release information forms.

Tuition Assistance:
We are working with generous people in our community to try to raise some money to provide assistance for families facing economic hardshipor families with multiple children. Please inquire prior to registration

Food:
The camp does not provide food. Students will have to bring their own lunch. The camp will provide snack before the end of the day.
